On Rare Disease Day, we recognize the millions of individuals and families affected by rare conditions, including ocular albinism. Ocular albinism (OA) is a rare genetic disorder that affects eye color and vision. Unlike other types of albinism, it does not impact skin or hair color, which can make diagnosis more challenging. While many effects are treatable, particularly with early intervention, limited awareness and funding can slow research progress. Because ocular albinism is rare, research funding is often limited. That’s why Vision of Children is committed to investing in groundbreaking research focused on genetic vision disorders. In fact, OA is one of the vision disorders VOC uses as a research template to help drive discoveries that may lead to a cure not only for ocular albinism, but for a variety of related genetic vision conditions. Donate to VOC today, because rare should never mean overlooked.
